Toy Materials, Hygiene And Lubricants- Sex Toy 101

ABS- A hard plastic, semi-porous, durable and easy to clean.  It is phthalate free.

Hygiene And Maintenance:Clean your toys with the warm water and toy cleaner. Don't use strong soaps on them and let them air dry.

Lubricants: Water and silicone

Aluminum- Aluminum is remarkable for its ability to resist corrosion meaning the toys made of it will never rust and its low density which makes it very light. Aluminum is great for temperature play and easily warms up to the body's temperature. It is non-porous and can be easily cleaned in dishwasher. Aluminum doesn't contain chemicals like latex or phthalates.

Hygiene And Maintenance: After each use, clean your toy, hand-washing it with warm water and an anti-bacterial soap. Promptly dry it off with the satin cloth or a fine cotton cloth. You can also clean it on the dishwasher's top rack.

Lubricants: All lubricants

Cyberskin- is the most realistic feeling of all materials used in sex toys. It is a thermal plastic which is brand term from a soft elastomer. It warms with use and creates a very realistic skin-to-skin sensation. Cyber Skin material may contain phthalates.

Hygiene And Maintenance:These materials are extremely porous, making it difficult to clean and easy for germs and dirt to hide. So protect them with a condom. Skin-like materials are extremely sensitive; they should be cleaned before and after every use with warm water and toy cleaner or antibacterial soap. These toys come dusted in a powdery material to maintain their unique texture, clean the toy thoroughly before first use. After each use, clean again and dust with a little cornstarch (not TALC which has been linked to cervical cancer) before storing to prevent the toy from becoming sticky.

Lubricants:Water based

Elastomer- comes from two terms, elastic (describing the ability of a material to return to its original shape when a load is removed) and mer (from polymer, in which poly means many and mer means parts) Elastomers start out soft and have product added to make them harder. This type of material is ideal for manufacturing a variety of textures.

Hygiene And Maintenance: Elastomer is less porous than cyberskin but more porous than silicone so we recommend using condoms when sharing. Elastomer toys cannot be disinfected with boiling water. You can wash them with warm water and toy cleaner or mild soap.

Lubricants:Silicone, water

Futurotic- Thermal plastic elastomer (mixture of PVC and silicone)

Hygiene And Maintenance: These materials are extremely porous, making it difficult to clean and easy for germs and dirt to hide. So protect them with a condom. After each use, clean again and dust with a little cornstarch (not TALC which has been linked to cervical cancer) before storing to prevent the toy from becoming sticky. They should be stored individually in a dark, cool place. Store each toy separately in a plastic zip bag or thin sock because the porous surface can absorb dyes from other materials. These materials are also very incompatible with many substances. Contact with silicone-based lubricants, oil or petroleum based products will cause damages to the surface of the toy. Use only water based lubricants.

Lubricants: Water based

Glass- A glass is an inorganic non metallic material that does not have a crystalline structure. Such materials are said to be amorphous and are virtually solid liquids cooled at such a rate that crystals have not been able to form. Pyrex, a brand name for borosilicate glass, is made by adding boron into the mixture of sand, soda and ground lime.

Hygiene And Maintenance: Glass is extremely smooth and nonporous. Easy to clean, with soap/water or sex toy cleaner. Use condoms if sharing.

Lubricants: Silicone, water, oil

Latex- The high porous formulation of this material makes it very flexible and suitable for applications in different fields. The high porous formulation of this material makes it very flexible and suitable for applications in different fields.

Hygiene And Maintenance: Being very porous, latex does not clean well. You can make a latex toy last longer and keep it cleaner by using a condom over it each use. Cleaning should be done with mild soap and water and never use alcohol or household cleaners.

Lubricants: Water, Silicone

PVC- In general, PVC is light, water resistant, offers a long life cycle and does not require much maintenance. These excellent qualities makes PVC one of the most commonly used plastics today. General properties include fast fusion and good property flow with high heat stability

Hygiene And Maintenance: The PVC toys should be cleaned with warm water and antibacterial soap. You may also use an absolutely universal solution - a sex toy cleaner.

Lubricants: Water, Silicone

Plastic-  Hard plastic is generally not that porous and phthalate-free material with a firm, smooth textures.

Hygiene And Maintenance: Can easily be cleaned with antibacterial soap and hot water or by wiping down with isopropyl alcohol.

Lubricants:Water, Oil, Silicone

SilaGel- Soft, super-smooth, and semi-porous, this material is completely anti-bacterial, limiting the risk of transferring bacteria. As well the non-toxic property makes it safe to use by most anybody. A major trait of Sil-a-Gel is the latex and cadmium free design. Cadmium is a metal known to cause cancer and used as a stabilizer in most PVC made products.

Hygiene And Maintenance:Though it is relatively safe, Sil-a-Gel has the tendency to attract dust and small debris, therefore we recommended that these toys be protected with condoms and cleaned before and after each use with warm water and mild soap.

Lubricants:Water and silicone

Silicone- Silicone has a tight molecular structure and retains heat. Try to soak silicone toy (make sure it's waterproof) in the warm water before using it to get nice warm feeling. Silicone also repels dirt and bacteria and doesn't fall apart with extended friction.

Hygiene And Maintenance:Silicone is smooth and not porous. Silicone can be fully disinfected by boiling it for 3 minutes or by throwing it into the top rack of your dishwasher.

Lubricants:Water

TPR- TPR has an excellent flexural fatigue resistance and high impact strength. It starts out soft and have product added to make them harder. This type of material is ideal for manufacturing a variety of textures. A polymer blend or compound that exhibits a thermoplastic character.

Hygiene And Maintenance: TPR is less porous than cyberskin but more porous than silicone, so we recommend using condoms when sharing. TPR toys cannot be disinfected with boiling water. You can wash them with warm water and toy cleaner or mild soap.

Lubricants: Silicone, water

UR3- Compounded to mimic real skin. The high molecular density of these materials allows them to be flexible and resilient. Thermal plastic elastomer (mixture of PVC and silicone)
